Description

Making pulled pork in an Instant Pot is a great way to save time and energy while still enjoying all of the classic flavors of BBQ pulled pork. This recipe uses a combination of simple ingredients to make a tender and juicy pulled pork that is full of flavor. The pork is cooked in a savory sauce of garlic, onion, tomato paste, and BBQ sauce, and is perfect for piling onto buns or using in a variety of dishes. The Instant Pot makes it easy to cook a tender and juicy pulled pork in a fraction of the time it would take in the oven or on the grill.

Prep Time

This recipe requires minimal prep time. You will need to prepare the ingredients and mix the sauce, which should take about 10 minutes. Then the pork will need to be seasoned and browned in the Instant Pot, which should take an additional 10 minutes.

Cook Time

Once the pork is in the Instant Pot, it will take approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to cook. The pork should be cooked until it is tender and easily pulled apart with a fork.

Ingredients

  • 2.5 lb. boneless pork shoulder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup BBQ sauce

Instructions

1. Begin by seasoning the pork shoulder with the garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Rub the seasonings into the meat to ensure even flavor throughout.

2. Turn the Instant Pot to the sauté setting and add the olive oil. When the oil is hot, add the pork shoulder and brown it on all sides. This should take about 5 minutes.

3. When the pork is browned, add the water, tomato paste, and BBQ sauce to the Instant Pot. Stir to mix the ingredients together.

4. Secure the lid on the Instant Pot and turn the valve to the sealing position. Set the Instant Pot to high pressure and cook for 1 hour and 15 minutes.

5. When the time is up, turn the valve to the venting position to release the pressure. Open the lid and use a pair of forks to shred the pork into small pieces.

6. Serve the pork on buns with coleslaw and your favorite BBQ sides.
