Description

Black beans are a delicious and versatile ingredient that can be cooked in many different ways, but none will be faster and easier than with an Instant Pot. This simple Instant Pot recipe for black beans will show you how to make flavorful black beans with minimal effort. You can serve the cooked beans as is, or use them in a variety of dishes, from salads and burritos to burgers and even tacos. This recipe is a great way to enjoy black beans without spending hours in the kitchen.

Prep time

This recipe has a very short prep time. All you need to do is to rinse the beans and cut the onion and garlic. The whole process should not take more than 5 minutes.

Cook Time

The cook time for this recipe is around 30 minutes. The beans will need to be cooked on high pressure for 25 minutes and then the pressure needs to be released. This cook time does not include the time it takes for the Instant Pot to come to pressure.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of dried black beans, rinsed
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons of ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon of sea salt
  • 6 cups of water

Instructions

1. Start by rinsing the beans in a colander. Make sure to discard any stones or debris that may be present.

2. Add the olive oil to the Instant Pot and press the sauté button. Once the oil is hot, add the diced onion and garlic and sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3 minutes.

3. Add the rinsed beans, cumin, smoked paprika, and sea salt to the Instant Pot and stir to combine.

4. Pour the water into the Instant Pot and give everything a good stir.

5. Secure the lid, making sure the steam release valve is in the “sealing” position.

6. Cook the beans on high pressure for 25 minutes. When the cooking time is up, let the pressure release naturally for 10 minutes and then manually release the remaining pressure.

7. Open the lid and check to make sure the beans are cooked through. If they’re not, you can cook them for an additional 5 minutes on high pressure.

8. Once the beans are cooked through, they are ready to be served or used in other recipes.

Notes

Be sure to check the beans before cooking to make sure there are no stones or debris present. It is also important to use enough water when cooking the beans. If the water level is too low, the beans will not cook properly.
